Top 5...

The countdown continues with the Top 5 most memorable goals...

#5 - "Call-up steals the show."

A few weeks after being called up to Andrews team, it happened again, only this time it wasn't just 1 goal...It was 4...

I opened the scoring making it 1-0, then 2-1 after it was tied...Late in the 2nd I took a pass from Andrew and backhanded it top cheeeeeese for the Hatty...Later in the 3rd I took a breakaway pass and scored on the same move I used before, the five hole can opener.

#4 - "#1 in the country vs. Jordan Chong"

Playing in a building that the top ranked team in the country hadn't lost in in about 100 games this year we were down 1-0 when late in the 1st I took a 4 on 4 semi-breakaway pass, blew by the d-man and buried my first of the year.

Down 2-1 early in the 3rd a loose puck popped out to me in the slot that I buried blocker side on the nations MVP Kyle Jones, tying the game at 2-2 which would be the final and would send me on to the first player in 2 years for our team to win league player of the week honors.

#3- "OT upset."

In overtime we were playing River Falls in their building the #4 team in the country, at the very end of a huge penalty kill by us our D-man airmailed one out of the zone and had their d flat footed...I raced after it, got it first and buried 5-hole for the ot win...

I continued to jump into the glass right in front of their student section where our whole team would join the celebration as we got middle fingers and beaks from the fans...Whatta feeling.

#2 - "Dingle dangle...Upset...Scholarship."

My last year of Jr we were huge underdogs in the Ontario final four tourney. Our opening game we were playing the #2 team in the country that was favored to win it all.

After going down 1-0 in the 2nd, a chip off the boards gave us an odd man rush. As I carried it down the left boards the D-man began to cut in on me. Once he got close enough I pulled a siiiick toe drag around him and shot a quick one which went 5-hole. We went on to win 3-2, shock the country and I went on to play where I am today because of it.

#1 - "Biggest goal in school history."

1990 saw the last time my school defeated the University of Wisconsin-Superior. We were playing them in a must win game in the playoffs to force a 20 minute tie breaker game. Down 3-0 with 12 minutes left we found a way to score 4 and win the game to force the tie breaker.

We went down 1-0 only 30 seconds into it and saw the next 18ish minutes go back and forth with chances at both sides. As we were pressing with the goalie pulled and 19 seconds left on the clock one of their players intentionally knocked the net off...Meaning, a penalty shot...

As we skated back to our bench to see who our coach's would pick I had a feeling it was going to be me, even though I was a first year guy...I wanted it though.

Coach looked at me and said, "You got this Chonger?" I responded "Fuck yeah"

As I skated out into the spotlight I looked at the 2 thousand plus fans all standing, I picked out my dad and Trevor in the crowd then looked at the puck at center, said to myself I got this...

The whistle blew and suddenly I couldn't hear the thousands at all. I skated down the right side, faked the shot, opened up the 5-hole and buried. Suddenly my hearing came back and our huge student section erupted as I pulled one of the best cellys of my life...I one knee fist pump past their bench, into a Theo Fleury bail out before getting tackled by my teamates at center ice.

The game would goto overtime and we would end up winning the game.

Now whenever I'm at school I'm known to many as "The guy who scored the penalty shot"

It's pretty siiiick...

Woooo...Dingle dangle, many more siiiick goals to come.

Top Ten Most Memorable Goals

Photobucket

Today on top ten we look at my most memorable goals so far in my young hockey career.

Today we'll look at goals 10-6

Number 10:

-"The City Rivalry."

Midget AAA playing for the North Shore Winter Club Hawks in North Vancouver, our biggest rival was North Vancouver Minor Hockey. Most kids on that team we went to school with and were somewhat friends with, but on the ice the two teams just hated eachother.

They had our number most of the year until the last game of the season when we were tied 1-1 with 3 minutes to play and after taking a breakaway pass I buried on what would soon become my signature move, the canopener, which opens up the goalies five hole with a few quick moves.

After the goal I did the biggest sliding fist pump right past their bench to rub in the winning goal.

Number 9:

-"The Call Up."

Playing Bantam AAA we were the feeder system for the older Midget AAA team which my older brother Andrew played on. For their annual Christmas tourney I got called up, took a beautiful breakaway pass from my bro and buried it five-hole.

The end of the game would see me winning game MVP.

Number 8:

"Coast to Coast...Twice."

-When playing my final season as the Captain of the Dryden Ice Dogs Jr. A team, there were some games where I just felt way out of everyone else's league. And when we played the Golden Hawks, that's when I had this feeling a lot.

In two separate games against them I had siick dangle filled coast to coast goals, at home the crowd buzzed as I blew past a D-man at the blue line then cut in on another in the slot to score...The actual radio call was, "What a goal by Jordan Chong, looking like Mario out there."

Then later in their rink on a 4 on 4 time, I took the puck at my own circle, busted all the way down the left boards and just as the D-man came to stand me up on the wall, I pulled a little 'How she doin' to cut back inside and finish it off going top cheeeeeeeeeese.

Number 7:

"50/50"

My first year in Dryden before I got traded, their the team had a brutal start putting them well below the .500 mark, but after some key additions and change of style we found ourselves 1 game behind .500 with one to play.

We were tied 4-4 with under a minute to play when the goalie kicked a rebound right on my stick that I buried top glove, and this was soooo top cheeese that the puck stuck up behind the back cross bar...I followed with a "Boston Slide" celly.

Number 6:

"Double OT Upset."

In 03/04 I played Jr B on Vancouver Island for the Comox Glacier Kings in a league dominated by the top team in the country the Campbell River Storm.

In a 2nd round playoff match-up we found ourselves in double ot in game 2 at home. Then a break happened when we chipped the puck out for a two on 1 with me carrying it down the left side...I've always been shoot before pass and this was no exception as i took the shot that actually wasn't close to where I wanted it and it was somewhat right at the goalie, but in over time they always say put it on net and anything can happen...The goalie had problems with it and it trickled over the line...

I did another huuuge Boston Slide to center ice as my 20 teamates piled on top giving me a pretty huge charlie horse that actually bothered me for about a week.

Best summer ever???

So I think the summer of 2008 has potential to top the list of my best summer ever. I've had some good ones so it'll be tough, but there's a lot of stuff that is going to go down this summer:

I get home May 9th hopefully, and immediately after a 26 hour drive jump into a floor hockey tourney where I will do nothing but dominate...

The next day May 10th, is the first low-tide day of the season at 4:30, so I will be skimboarding it up forrrr surrre...

The next week I'm probably going to spend 4-5 days up at Keats Island doing off-season work wherever help is needed in order to get some extra flow for the adventures coming up soon.

Next after the needed week off working out I will get back on the train hardcore...6 days a week giving everything I got to get bigger, stronger and faster for next hockey season.

Around this time I have just been informed that I need to pull my baseball skills outta the closet as I will be joining T-Bagz and his team for as many games as I can make it to.

May 19th-21st...This will kind of be like the official start to summer for me I think. Me Cory and Mark are going to rock up to my moms brand new Penticton condo which is unreal by the way and in a sick location...Gonna spend a few days skimming, skating, hanging out...And of course wheelin and dealin son...

May 28th-June 2nd...Quite possibly the highlight of the summer, before summer officially begins...Me and Trevor have already thrown down a few hundred to get tickets to WWE One Night Stand in San Diego, California...We have decided to road trip it and stop at some sweet places. I have a lot of the top skim spots marked down in southern cal, so I wanna hit those, check out San Fran again...Hang in Huntington, Newport and Laguna Beach...and once again...Wheel and or Deal...Oh yeah, the wrestling will be sick too...Watch it on pay per view, our seats are sick enough you wil see us on tv the whole time...

June 3rd...As soon as I get back I will begin my required internship I need to graduate at a place you may have heard of called ..."Hockey Now" newspaper...I've known the editor for almost 23 years so he was able to hook me up with a 2-3 week internship in an area which I love...

June 17thish...The battle begins...

The Keats Camps sr staff retreat is this weekend where I will head up for what I think will be the most intense, spiritual, emotional, fun summer at camp ever.

Right after that weekend retreat I will stay up as the rest of the staff show up for our 2 weekish staff training and prep...

Then end of June...The kids start coming and I make it rain with Worship directing and counseling.

2nd week of July...A potential return to Camp 2...This is not official yet so keep your shirts on...(I dont think that makes sense)...But I've been praying a lot about whether or not I will come back to Anvil...I really want to, but I dont want to abandon my role at Keats, and Anvil already has a lot of sick experienced ppl...So we'll see.

Camp pretty much sums up there rest of this amazing summer...It'll go down till the end of August when I will return to Van for a few days of nothing but skimboarding, hanging with my peeps as much as I can...Then a HUUUUUUUUGE 20 kegger goodbye party as I prep to head back to school for my Jr. year.

Well the kegs will have water in them...Except for like 5 of them...Know what I'm sayyyyyinnn...nong nong nong...

haha anyways, that was long...I'm gonna go wheel and deal..peace

Funny photo comments...

So since Tara is such a creep and constantly looks at ALLLLL my pics on facebook, she noticed that I have some hilarious comments on some of them...So I have done my best to highlight some of the best ones:

-On a pic of me and Trevor wearing tag team belts and old couple stands behind us in the distance:

"Great picture Bri-man. I was wondering are the people behind you the one's you beat??? Collectively they must be as old as death. Maybe that's their Tag Team name "Older then Death" - if they can't get you eventually time will."

-On Mark running around Spanish Banks in a man thong
""that is wrong on so many levels. well. at least he hunted crows."

-On a pic of me and the bros...Comment by Kenton

Apparently I'm kind of a big deal...I went to visit Dryden, Ontario, the town where I spent two of the best years of my life dominating the Jr. hockey scene, and me and my friend/former teammate got the honor of dropping the ceremonial face-off...And later went live on the radio and had a good beak session about how my team dominated his this year.
